ECU Remapping will disable the EGR to improve the quality of your engine performance by reprogramming the ECU and stopping the valve opening and operating. It may also increase the engine life span. This is because it will have reduced the oil contamination and carbon deposits.
If your EML is illuminated and the vehicle in Limp Mode as a result, it will stop the DTC being triggered and allow your vehicle to run on as normal.
EGR valves can be costly, from £100-£700 for an EGR valve or valve/integral cooler. Plus labour charges and some vehicles requiring as much as 9 hours to remove and replace, you could be looking at anywhere from £500 - £1200 for replacing it all-in.
Save your money and opt for an EGR delete and never have an EGR fault again.
Does my EGR need blanking?
A popular question.
Sometimes, yes.
Sometime, no.
More & more EGR faults i'm seeing are relating to the position sensor within the electrical control unit on top of the EGR. In most instances blanking is not required, as the valve is likely mechanically ok with no leaks.
If however, your valve is mechanically faulty and sticking open causing intermittent power issues (not to be confused with limp mode), then it's recommended to blank it off.
You can also blank it off at a later date if it becomes a problem down the line.
